Getting Started With Art

When I was a kid I drew constantly.  It did not matter where we went or what tools I had, I would draw.  I remember sitting in restaurants drawing pictures on napkins or finding scrap paper that I could draw on during church.  I just loved to draw.

This did not change as I got older.  Drawing was still one of my favorite things to do.  In fact, it was just a couple of years ago that I decided that I wanted to pursue drawing as a career.  You might be sitting there, reading this, and wondering how I would actually make a living doing this.  I get it, drawing is not in popular demand as a job.  Unless I could get a job at a theme park doing caricatures or something like that, right?

Well, that’s where it started, what was I going to do?  If you are an artist and you want to make a living out of your work, then you will come to the point when you realize you will have to choose a profession like a graphic artist or cartoonist or whatever.  So that’s the starting off point, and after you realize that you cannot just simply draw for a living you are on the right track.

I decided that I could use my drawing for something bigger.  I decided that I wanted to learn to screenprint.  Now, screenprinting is a technique that allows you to transfer images to fabric.  Of course, it is not as simple as just drawing that image.  There are computer programs and printers involved too.  So whatever path you decide to take, be prepared to find out that there will be more involved than you might have originally thought.

No matter what your passion is, it is possible to find a career that will allow you to incorporate what it is that you love to do the most.
